Nc roadblock alert11/10/2023 ![]() ![]() “Law enforcement cruisers and contractor vehicles will lead drivers at 10 miles per hour,” Powell explained. Eastbound travelers will encounter one at Tennessee exit 447, Hartford Road. When the contractor is ready for the daily detonation, westbound travelers will encounter a “rolling roadblock” at exit 20 near Maggie Valley. “We initially plan on blasting six days a week to minimize the length of the total project.” “The contractor can block the road for up to one 30-minute period between sunrise and 10 a.m.,” said Aaron Powell, NCDOT resident engineer. The North Carolina Department of Transportation continues a project to make the rockslide-prone area safer, blasting unstable boulders from the mountainside near mile marker 7. Department of Transportation:ĪSHEVILLE–Blasting operations will cause temporary morning closures on a rural stretch of Interstate 40 in Haywood County near the Tennessee border starting Wednesday, July 15, weather permitting. Some poor bastard that's never done anything wrong is going to end up running over and killing a cop and get 25 years in prison even though they know how dangerous it is and keep doing it anyways.Update: Rolling roadblocks scheduled to start Wednesday, July 15 Hopefully someone with some sense and authority finds out how they do them and puts a stop to it before someone gets killed. I've heard several people talking about this and complaining so I'm not the only one that thinks it's crazy. The first person that is fiddling with their phone or radio, or just looking at the moon for a split second isn't going to be able to stop. I couldn't stop in time and was driving looking straight ahead. I warned them that someone was going to get killed or hurt doing it like that because you can't see anythings going on until the last second. One time I had to slam on my breaks as hard as I could and the cop still had to move because I overshot where they were standing. Twice I have almost drove right through it going full speed because I couldfn't see the cops standing in the road. The road isn't busy that time of night, so there isn't a line of cars waiting to get through. They both have little flashlights, but they don't turn them on until you get right up on them. None of the cars have any lights or anything going, and the entire thing is just 2 cops standing in the darkest part of the road imaginable. But to make it where you can't see them a long way off giving people an opportunity to turn and avoid the checkpoint, they park their police cars in a parking lot right beside the checkpoint. (Just a little 2 lane back road highway). In this town they set up in the middle of the highway. You round a curve and all of a sudden you see the police cars and lights, so you can't turn around or anything to try and avoid it. They don't set up after a curve or somewhere that you can't see them like most places. But the thing about how they do it is so dangerous. I've probably went through 5 of them just this year. They are notorious for having roadblocks in this town at night. When I'm going to work the first town I go through after crossing the border is a tiny little town.
